SCREENPLAY
Writing a screenplay is dead easy! After your students have read or viewed the stimulus, this is what you could ask them to do:
- Contemplate the stimulus. They may want to draw, doodle, sketch or even collage.
- What thoughts or images does it inspire? What story do they want to write?
- How are they going to tell it? Are they going to tell the literal story OR does it inspire something else?
- What does it make them feel?
- Where are they positioned as the writer? What is their Points of View?
- Is the stimulus the start, the middle, the end? Perhaps is it the prequel?
WHAT NEXT?
MAKE A ROUGH OUTLINE OF YOUR STORY
What happens in the beginning?
What happens in the middle?
What happens at the end?
THEN WORK OUT YOUR CHARACTERS
Who are they?
Where are they? (their settings, and the physical location/s)
What do they want?
WORK OUT YOUR SETTINGS / PHYSICAL LOCATION/S
If it's in a vacant house (for example) - why is it scary? Look at the above picture to practice these questions;
Describe what it looks like.
What sounds come from within?
What does it smell like?
What does it feel like?
Does it taste like anything?
