​How does my class make a short film ?

When do schools entries close?

Final entries close Midnight October 31, 2023.

How long? How short?

5 minute maximum including credits - no minimum. 

How does my class edit their film?

Editing is simplest through iMovie on Apple or for Android platform VidTrim, Magisto or any others you prefer.  Again there are tutorials on youtube. If any of your groups are not confident editors, they could submit a one shot film, where there are no cuts or edits. The film continuously goes from the first scene to the final.

Can International students enter?

Yes, we are encouraging international students to enter.

Can my class use subtitles?

Yes, of course.

Does it have to be in English? 

Not at all. 

What about animations, documentaries and mockumentaries?

These styles can be entered too.

Can my class re-cut a previously made film?

Yes.

Can my class use music from the net?

Yes ONLY if it's royalty free or public domain. The music could be composed by the students, composed by Garageband or made from scratch. Ideally we would like submitters to make their own sound. Record footsteps, fingernails scratching the floor, doors creaking or literally use your voice. 

​​Are there any restrictions for swearing and sexual depictions?

Yes. No swearing is allowed and obviously no explicit sexual depictions. Your judgement is key.

​​Does my class need written permission from the cast?

Yes.  This is necessary. Please download Talent Release Form under the Media Forms for Teachers tab. Every cast member needs a completed form.

Can adults perform in my students' films?

Yes. Any adults will also be required to sign a Talent Release Form. Importantly, the film must remain creatively led by the young people.

How do I know if we've won?

Winners will announced at our Red Carpet Gala Awards ceremony on November 20, 2023 at The Golden Age Cinema 20 November 2023

Do I need  the release forms?

A release form enables the festival to show your work publicly. We need the release forms so you agree that your actors,  your film and stills pictures from your film can be shown online, on social media and any other media platforms . This includes our website, any public screenings and promotional materials.  All entrants need to complete all release forms. 

How is the film judged?

Judged by Industry Professionals.
